DiMA Showcase & Competition results

The breadth of student talent across the county was on display at this year’s DiMA Showcase, with top awards going to students from Vista, Sweetwater, Coronado, Poway, and San Diego City School Districts.  The following received recognition and awards:

Best Graphic Design (G1): “Muse Skateboards” by Derek Shafer from Westview High School, Teacher John Nacu. Award: 1-week Photoshop class at Platt College-San Diego

Best Animated/Interactive Design (GX): “Flower Assault” by Paolo Tellez from Bonita Vista High School, Teacher Edwin Lim.  Award: 1-on-1 consultation with professionals at LEARN, a Bootcamp for internet design and interactive engineering

Best Music Composition (M1) & BEST OF SHOW: “Prominence” by Miguel Prima from Mission Vista High School, Teacher Anne Fennell.  Award: choice of Presonus Music Creation Suite or GoPro Hero 3+ camera

Best Narrative Video (V1): “Don’t Sit on Me” by Nico Lavachek at Coronado High School, Teacher Carlos Pelayo.  Award: Hubsan X4 Drone with video camera

Best Documentary Video (V2), High School: “Skin” by Hinsseenee Regassa, Pacific Arts Reel Voices, Teacher Pat Clark.  Award: 1-week Filmmaking class at Platt College-San Diego

Best Documentary Video (V2), Middle School: “Sundays with Sachiko” by Cole Mullins, from Coronado Middle School, Teacher Amy Steward.  Award: Lunch at Clayton’s and coaching session with directors of EyeLikeVideo Productions

Best Journalism/PSA Video (V3/4/X): “Drug Overdoses” by Natalie Starr and Brooklynn Hamilton from Scripps Ranch High School, Teacher Gary Kelley.  Award: 1-on-1 consultation with head of The Director’s Edge Training Program in Los Angeles

Best Video, any category: “I’m Just Like You” by Ashton Tu at Pacific Arts Reel Voices, Teacher Pat Clark.  Award: Online summer enrollment at Academy of Art University in San Francisco, including class fees for four courses

Outstanding Program Award: Music Composition Program directed by Anne Fennell from Mission Vista High School.  Award: Short documentary, GoPro Hero camera, and lunch at Comic-con

Email Drawing: Subscriber #153, Ray Adair of CPMA Magnet School.  Award: GoPro Hero camera

In addition to exhibition at the Showcase event, ALL student entrants received positive and constructive feedback from multiple judges.  Those notes will be emailed directly to students on Monday, June 8, or as soon as we have individual contact information.  Please encourage student entrants who have not already done so to contact us with that email. Students awarded prizes who did not collect these at the Showcase should contact us ASAP.  Some awards are time-restricted, and all awards must be claimed (or forfeited) by June 30, 2015.

Thank you for joining the 2015 DiMA Showcase–or at least for tolerating our emails thus far.  Please watch for a survey for teachers next week, which will be an important voice in planning our 2016 event.
